Michael Adams was born in Malaysia but educated in England, where he studied Painting and Engraving at the Royal College of Art, London. On graduating he moved to Uganda where he became head of the Graphic Department at Makerere University, Kampala. During this time, he began working as a professional artist. He exhibited widely across East Africa until 1972, when he moved to the Seychelles, where he still lives and works. Adams has become well known for his vibrantly coloured silkscreen prints of the lush Seychellois vegetation, and in 2001 was awarded an MBE for his services to art in the Seychelles and was appointed the official artist of the Seychelles.
