Yiga Matovu was an alumnus of the Makerere Art School in the 1970s. In the early 1980s he moved to South Africa, where he remained for a decade working as an art teacher.

Not much is known about his later career.

This lovely painting one of a series of miniature local scenes made around the same period and acquired from Makerere Gallery in the 1970s.
