Trevor is a full-time artist based in Mutungo, Uganda. A figurative painter, his largescale figurative works explore the idea of the body as a material and a tool. Aloka refers to himself as a community artist, he studies the environment he is going to work in, in order to accuratly and honestly represent the people who inhabit it. Through this process he creates raw, emotional portraits. Growing up in Kamala, Aloka has always been aware of the multi ethnic nature of his community and tries to give voice to this community thought his realistic painterly style.
This painting is from the Ready for Export series which explored the migration of African people, from the ‘brain drain’ of skilled professionals to the mass migration of labourers.
