Ibrahim Nsubunga, also known as Mutigwanyanja, is a multifaceted Ugandan artist, writer and historian.
He describes his work as the interaction of things, bodies and elements in popular culture. He employs the use of free hand to create irregular lines and figurative forms, after which he transfers the drawings and paints them.
He shows an interest in making portraits as well as colorful compositions that highlight contortion, excessiveness, exaggeration, movement, orientation, moments and cohesiveness. These paintings and drawings articulate no absolute conclusion, but still convey constructive fantasies and artistic imagination.
Ibrahim finds inspiration in a mix of afro-cubism, time travel and what he defines as “literature that defies correctness.”
He has participated in several solo and group exhibitions from 2005 to date. He currently lives and works in Kampala, Uganda.
