Mzuguno began his career in the arts with the Tinga Tinga Arts Cooperative Society. He was selling more than the other painters and 1989, he left to pursue his own technique, taking the Tinga Tinga style in a new direction. He spent the next few years painting for a Japanese collector, a guest at the University of Dar es Salaam from his home in Mlandizi, Tanzania.
The richness of nature in Mzuguno’s paintings is inspired by his roots in the Kilimanjaro region where he was born. In 2013, he held a solo exhibition at the Alliance Française in Dar es Salaam. In 2009, he participated in a residency programme in China at the Shenzhen Fine Art Institute. He passed away in 2010, shortly after a very successful exhibition in Kampala.
