Born in Zanzibar, Imanjama took a painting course at the Goethe Institut in Stone Town in 1975. Encouraged by this experience and realising he wanted to be an artist, he later joined the Dar es Salaam Art and Craft Centre. In 1982, he studied various printmaking techniques including etching and went on to develop these skills during various summer Academy programmes in Salzburg, Austria from 1986 – 1996.
Considered a master printmaker alongside the late Robino Ntila, he has exhibited his work in Austria, Germany and Tanzania with a major exhibition at the National Museum of Dar es Salaam.
